Howdy from Happy Valley!

“Family traditions counter alienation and confusion. They help us define who we are; they provide something steady, reliable and safe in a confusing world.”

- Susan Lieberman

Greeting this week from Happy Valley! Nestled in the foothills of the mountains where North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia meet, this is where my parents have made their “home base” for the last few years. You see, they are full-on gypsy at the moment. They sold the house and land in Ohio, purchased a small plot of land with my aunt and uncle in SC, and have been going where ever they want.

They were recently at the beach, are here with me for the week, then are heading to OH for a week, then on to Wisconsin for the summer. My dad is going to be a tram conductor at a camp ground for the summer.

I’m glad that it worked out that I could spend my week off with them here. It’s beautiful country and I needed the chance to get away. I’ll be starting a new job downtown in Chicago at the end of the month and I know I’ll be working like crazy. So this week is a welcome respite.

Do you have a place that you can retreat to when you need a break from reality?

And I hope you have an amazing week!

P.S. – here’s a photo of Happy Valley, if you’re interested:

  • Yay! I’m so glad you got a chance to get in some R&R before starting your new job! Your parents have the right idea and how awesome is it that your dad is going to do that!? There are lessons in that attitude!

Hawaii is our “happy place” and thankfully it’s just around the corner. We hope you do the Ironman in Kona. If the place we stay is available, you could have the guest house! :-) (As long as you didn’t have the attitude we discussed with the last person we shared vacation space with but something tells me you’re a little more mature than that! LOL)
